Medical Device Payer Strategy

A well established, growing medical device company is expanding and needs a Manager of Payer Strategy.
For the past 50 years our client has been providing numerous medical devices used by millions of individuals, surgeons and hospitals globally. Named as a “Best Place to Work” for a number of years they are focused on consistent growth and financial stability.
This position is a brand new position for the company. You would not be inheriting a legacy but building the position from the ground up. This position is highly visible within the company and can have a significant impact on the growth of the company. You would be the payer expert and will create strategies to improve my client’s product’s coverage policies with payers. It is a hybrid role where you would work closely with Account Management, Marketing, Sales and Payer Relations. You would be a key player in the development of reimbursement strategies by understanding the particular payers and create an approach to those payers. In addition to strategy creation there would be an opportunity to incorporate channel marketing into the position requirements as well.
Essentially there are a number of groups within the organization whose results are dependent on payer “sales” and you would be the “go to” person in the organization to provide insights, expertise and strategic direction to assist them.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has been in the field working with payers to gain strategy experience.
This position can be field based but my client would relocate the employee to the Chicago area.
Responsibilities:
- Create the payer and channel strategy and determine annual goals.
- Identify and assist with growth strategies
- Provide payer expertise and insight to cross functional teams with the goal of assisting them increase their results.
- Identify key payer issues and develop strategic plans to overcome obstacles and increase access to therapy.
- Work closely with marketing teams for product launch within the territory

Background of the ideal candidate:
- Experience in reimbursement, payer marketing, payer policy or market access with a medical device company. They are open to someone who has biotech experience or someone who has worked in a managed care company.
- Knowledgeable with the managed care environment
- Experience with payers and providers
- 4 year bachelors degree, Masters preferred
- Ability to travel approximately 35% of the time.
